7th Edition Medical Expenses Deduction, Segment information, Anthelme Brillat-Savarin

November 3, 2009

1. Taxation (Source: “Zeimutsushin Magazine”)

Expenses for the purchase of glasses or contact lenses to correct myopia or hyperopia are not subject to medical expenses deduction. On the other hand, surgical cost for lasik eye surgery is subject to medical expenses deduction since it is considered to be “therapeutic intervention” to restore the function of eyes by medical approach based on doctor’s diagnosis.

2. Accounting (Source: “Keieizaimu Magazine”)

In Japan, segment information disclosure under the so-called “Management Approach” is scheduled to be introduced in April 2010. Most of listed companies are considering disclosure on the following information: (1) Disclosure by business more detailed than current business segments, (2) Disclosure by internally-segmented area, (3) Disclosure by a combination of business and area.

3.This Week’s Words of Wisdom

“To invite somebody is to take charge of his happiness while in your home”
(Anthelme Brillat-Savarin)

Brillat-Savarin is famous for the cheese that bears his name as well as his saying, “Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you what you are.” Last time I bought that cheese at a supermarket, and it tasted delicious.
