The number of Japanese enterprises entering Indian market has been increasing and became a total of 672 companies in January 2011. This is 2.7 times larger than that of five years ago (247 companies in January 2006) and shows rapid increase in these five years.
Seen by industry types, manufacturers (i.e. machinery, electrical equipment, automobile and automobile parts) are the most of them, 382 companies (56.8% of 672 companies).
On February 16th, 2011, Japan and India concluded an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA). By this agreement, future expansion is expected by phased reduction or abolition of customs duties and relaxation of regulations on retail industries entering the market.
